I rekindled my love for youtube and the youtube community last night by searching out new youtubers that I haven’t seen and getting more involved with the youtubers I already know. commenting and liking videos, tweeting links to great channels, you know the deal.
I think I did this as I kinda hit a landmark this week by reaching 50 subscribers which is a real accomplishment for me. When I started making videos for youtube I really didn’t think that I would stick with it, let alone that people would watch my videos. But I was wrong. Nearly a year later I’m still making regular videos (well as regular as they can be) and I’m still gaining subscribers and friends. It really has been a life changing experience for me and I’m only really getting started.
This last year has changed me, I changed me as a person, its changed my views and perspective and it’s made me more confident to be myself and I have to thank Youtube for all of it. It gave me the opportunity to get back to making videos just for me, about anything I wanted them to be about, whenever and however I wanted to make them. I gave me the chance to learn again, to be entertained and discover a whole new world I never would have known existed.
It’s given me friends that I would never had met and its allowed me to communicate with people in ways I would have never thought possible. I have always been a very shy person and I’ve found it really difficult to speak to anybody, even just an assistant in a shop. Youtube has given me the confidence to go up to that assistant and ask for what I need, its given me the confidence to be my nerdy self and not worry about what people think of me.
I spent a lot of my teen years, as a lot of people do, trying to fit in. fit in with different groups and trends, fit into a box so I could be classified as the same as someone else and so I could be accepted. Now I couldn’t care less about fitting in with anything. I love Harry potter and Dr who and Youtube and science and fantasy and I don’t care. Youtube gave me that confidence.
So I wanted to say thank you, Thank you to Youtube for giving me all of the opportunities I’ve had, Thank you for all of the friends that I’ve made and the confidence I’ve gained. But most of all I want to thank the people of youtube for making me feel welcome, for watching my videos and subscribing to my channel and sticking with me even when I make terrible videos, believe me I’ve only really started to get to grips with making videos without glaring errors and boring content. Really, Thank you for everything
If you don’t know what I’m talking about I strongly recommend that you go check out the videos on my channel and let me know what you think!
